Maze Runner 2 – Event update

Weather forecast – As at Thursday morning  the forecast for Friday is dry and Saturday is dry and sunny with an outside chance of a light shower.    The recent rain means the course will be a bit muddy in places.

Course Marking – The outrun course is marked with yellow arrows,  yellow paint, some red and white tape and plastic pegs with yellow high vis material.   There will be some signs confirming which route you are on and a half way sign.   There will be water out on the course and some marshals.

Cannicross –  Any gates on the 5K course will be opened and shut for you if there are sheep in the field.   The Redhill bike track is quite technical for Cannicross so you may like to use your warm up to check the undulating sweeping twists and turns of the Bike track.      If you choose to run the 10 K course there will be a couple of gates to lift your dog over.   The Mazes are probably not suitable for Cannicross, but you are welcome to try or walk them with your dog after the event.

Flour and Water Bomb Alley – We will give you a chance to escape this by means of a Question.    After completing the outrun you enter the Maze Courtyard with some obstacles and the first flour and water bomb area.   They will ask you a question and give you 3 possible answers.   Get the answer correct and you proceed unscathed.   You then enter the permanent Willow Maze and find your way through that and some of its obstacles.    On exiting the Willow Maze a second question is asked and you either escape or get bombed as you crawl through the nets.

Maize Mazes  –  On leaving the Maze Courtyard you enter the Giant Maze Mazes which cover 12 acres.    To prevent you getting too lost in them we will block off some of the paths so that you get through the Mazes and out to the finish in day light !    To block off the Maze Paths we use a plastic peg and a yellow painted line across the path.   We will also put down some yellow arrows so that you do not run back on yourselves or in circles.   On leaving the Mazes the finish line (same as the start line) is 100m away.

The Finish – Claim your free chips by showing your Event Number in the Maze Cabin.   We will have some alternatives to Medals for those who fancy something different.

Registration – Opens at 4:15 pm.

Canicross starts at 5.30 pm,

Runners start just after 5.30 pm.

Starter:  Miss Forest of Dean

Please use your warm up to see how the Maze paths are marked and take a look at the Bike track as it is an unusual feature to run over, particularly when wet.

Thank you for supporting this event and helping to raise money for the LIONS

Weather update – Sat. 10th September

We are due some rain on Saturday (10th Sept.) morning with the remainder of Saturday and all of Sunday being dry.   The Saturday rain may leave parts of the Cycle Track slippy in places so we advise that you use your warm up to run down the Track to see what it is like.  Canicross Runners in particular should do this.  You can run on the grass next to the Track.

There is a drop-down on the Track which we have marked with a post and tape so that it does not catch you out. You can run around it.  Also take the opportunity to see how the Mazes are marked out and as the paths are of compacted soil they will also have a few wet spots.

The Runners are eligible to do all the Mazes, obstacles and Run whereas the Cannicross Runners will bypass the Obstacles but are welcome to try the Maize Mazes in addition to the 5K Run.    All the obstacles / challenges can be bypassed.

If you do not complete the course still return to the Start / Finish area by the Maze Cabin and enter your time.

When signing on in the Maze Cabin use the Permanent Markers to put your Number on your forehead.   You are  likely to be photographed, and we also expect, if flying conditions are suitable, a drone to monitor your progress around the course.

We look forward to seeing you on the day.
